Unusual and Weird Types of Garage Sales

What weird types of sales are calling you in?

I thought I'd go over some unusual types of sales in this post. With just a stream-of-consciousness type of style here.

I know last summer (or sometime last year) I went to a garage sale that had an unusual type of advertisement. Although they did place an ad, the main advertisement was a person dressed up in a costume (I believe it was a dinosaur πŸ‰ or other animal) and they were on a main road near the sale calling people in, waving a sign. This had to take a lot of guts. It was very whimsical and different, indeed.

I've attended some sales that were a little unusual. I've seen people selling things out of their trucks and cars, vans, campers, etc. Even with a furry friend hanging out the window to help them call in customers.🐢 I've seen someone selling a few things rather close to the hood of their car, and some things, I believe, were on top of it, but no one was out there to attend to the sale, odd?

In my many garage sale adventures, I've also attended and driven by other types of selling platforms that involve the outside of the house or shed (a drive-by type of sale that requires the faith system for payment).

The faith system is usually a common jar with a slotted lid on it to collect the money, which is left out on its own near the goods. This style of sale included fresh produce, pasta sauce, and other types of foods, birdhouses, and bird food. I would really like to stop by the shed that had the decorated birdhouses.🐦It really looked like they had something going on there!

The other one, and maybe you have seen this in your travels as well, is the HONEY. 🍯 Oh, the honey that is sold in front of people's homes. I wonder how they make out with that. It is interesting though and very resourceful of those beekeepers.

I'm sure there are other weird ways to sell things out there and I hope you have your own weird experiences.

You may always write in and tell me about it if you choose to. : )

Happy garage sale hunting, the summer has just begun!

Yours truly,

Things that I Flipped and More Things I'd Like to Flip!

This process of flipping doesn't really end and that is what makes it so fun, the continuous process that shares the love at every angle! For those who love to look at things, buy things, or walk down memory lane with things, this is a good process and it is one that always delivers creativity, some musing, and thoughts, thoughts, thoughts...

Here are some things that recently went without much of an introduction. The compass was recently sold to a happy buyer. Brand new item! The perfume bottle was also sold to a happy camper...really miss that one, however, I had no immediate need for it. The cufflinks I hope to sell very soon. The silver cufflinks are a brand called Swank and they are vintage. The gold cufflinks are unknown, however, they have a unique pattern and can possibly be worn by both men and women...they are worth looking into more...

Yes, there are two!

I also have some smaller men's items, such as tie tacks and pins that I'm checking out. I am focusing on men's items lately as they are often overlooked and can be very valuable. Women's costume jewelry tends to get a lot of attention, so I'm changing focus just for a bit. If anything is of interest, please don't hesitate to reach out! I will post more going forward...

Items That Came In and Stayed...Bargain Hunting!

Here are pictures of some wares that recently came in and stayed with me. Some items I plan on keeping, while others I may eventually flip, however, I'm not sure! It's funny how some of these items make their way in because they are thought to be of possible value, however, some items I just plain want. You know how it is if you are reading and following this blog!

So, here we go...maybe you can shed some light on these items. Valuable or junk?

    • Swedish Egg Paperweight - Leo
    • Butterfly Pill Box
    • Collie Paperweight
    • Sarah Coventry Floral Necklace - I think this is worth selling...

GONE!

I'm not sure what I'll keep!

The Sea Horse Avon bottle was turned into a slight craft project and the other items have some history...the Chickadee Avon bottle smells so wonderful and it has the original box, I'm not quite certain about what to do with original Avon perfumes. I don't believe they are toxic, however, what to do? Pass them along, I think...

Paperweight appears to be somewhat vintage and the other items - not sure about.

The I Love New York piggy bank is questionable. It has the Twin Towers image with an apple on the other side of it. It may be mass-produced, however, was it made before the Twin Towers went down and does that make it valuable?

I am keeping a startup collection of small boxes, like the little black dog box. They are so quaint and easy to store.

The bracelet is beautiful and I don't know if I'll keep or sell it. It's not my style, but it's a looker.
UPDATE: Bracelet is GONE!

Oh, the jewelry boxes! One is a tackle/jewelry box for men made of resin and it's heavy, but nice and clean. The other box is a Metropolitan Museum of Art piece, so nice to look at.

Right now, these guys have a home. Other things may have to go! Please let me know if you are interested in anything.

Items are available in the Somerset and Morris County areas of N.J.
